The group we know as The Rascals was actually a direct
offshoot of JOEY DEE AND THE STARLIGHTERS which featured Eddie's older
brother, David. The Starlighters achieved worldwide fame and notoriety in
the early sixties with a string of hits, most notably THE PEPPERMINT TWIST
(#1,1962). Their legendary stint at New York's PEPPERMINT LOUNGE launched
their fame and THE PEPPERMINT TWIST became a dance phenomenon throughout the
country. In 1964, destiny brought together Gene, Eddie and Felix who
performed simultaneously as Starlighters until they broke away from Joey
Dee, recruited drummer Dino Danelli, and formed The Rascals in February,
1965. (more to come!) Joey Dee & The Starlighters various personnel included: Joey Dee David Brigati Larry Vernieri Willie Davis Rogers Freeman Bill Callanan Sam Taylor Carl Lattimore Jimmy James (aka Jimi Hendrix) Felix Cavaliere Eddie Brigati Gene Cornish |
